The Mirage Demolition: Farewell to the Volcano, Hello to the Hard Rock Guitar Hotel in Las Vegas

An iconic era of Las Vegas is coming to a close. Closed since July 17, 2024, The Mirage Hotel & Casino is undergoing a massive transformation led by Hard Rock International. Once famous for its erupting volcano (demolished right after closure in 2024), the Mirage is being reimagined as the bold new Hard Rock Las Vegas, headlined by the stunning guitar-shaped tower.

As of early 2026, construction is progressing rapidly: the iconic gold glass panels are being stripped from the existing tower, foundations are reinforced, and the Guitar Hotel structure is rising impressively along the Strip. The original Mirage tower is not being fully demolished — it’s being gutted and completely remodeled inside to feature an expanded casino, rock-themed dining, live music venues, and Hard Rock’s signature entertainment vibe. The new 660-foot (approx. 200m) guitar tower adds around 600 rooms, bringing the total well over 3,600.
